As Main Topic: I think Geography is the most representative, also History could be, and Centenaries too.

Then, more in particular it Geography of Uruguay, Cities of Uruguay, and the City of Tranqueras itself, that in the stamp issue day began to be a Centenary City, and of course History of Uruguay too as a concretization of the wider History Topic..

Then, surrounding the main topic, could be found the followings: The Rivera Department, a department of the northern region of Uruguay, that has an area of 9,370 km2 (3,620 sq mi) and a population of 103,493, and whose capital city name is also Rivera, because Tranqueras City is located in that department.

Bridges and Rivers, could be another topics for this release, as during the first decades of the 19th century the area was known as Paso de Tranqueras because of the homonymous Bridge over the Tacuarembó Grande river.

Another Topics that emerges from Tranqueras City History are: Trains, Railways, France, and Personalities, because French Marcos Bourré donated to the state some land for the construction of a Railway Station. The arrival of the Railway became the birth point of a village which grew rapidly with hotels, stores and small industry. This cause that, on July 22nd of 1914 it was declared a "Pueblo" (village) by the Act of Law Nº 5.107, and on October 15th of 1963, its status was elevated to "Villa" (town) by the Act of Law Nº 13.167, and finally, on December 13th of 1994, its status was elevated to "Ciudad" (city) by the Act of Law Nº 16.667.

Now, regarding the desing of the stamp: Besides reinforcing the Topic Geography showing a Landscape of Tranqueras City, it also add two complete new topics.

The first are Geology or Earth Science, by showing a Plateau in the background, surely one from the Sierra "Cuchilla Negra", that is nearby the city.

And the second is quite obvious, as the Head of this Animal takes the focus of the stamp, so Fauna or Animals, more precisely Birds or Flightless Birds, and in particular Greater Rhea or Rhea americana, also named Grey Rhea, Common Rhea, or American rhea, and Ñandú in Guaraní and Ema in Portuguese.

One of two species in the Genus Rhea, in the Family Rheidae, the Greater Rhea is endemic to Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. It inhabits a variety of open areas, such as Grasslands, Savanna or Grassy Wetlands. Weighing 50–55 pounds (23–25 kg), the Greater rhea is the largest bird in South America. In the wild, the Greater Rhea has a life expectancy of 10.5 years, It is also notable for its reproductive habits, and for the fact the that a group has established itself in Germany in recent years.

The Greater Rhea derives its scientific name from Rhea, a Greek Goddess, and the Latinized form of America. It was originally described by Carolus Linnaeus in his 18th-century work, Systema Naturae under the name Struthio camelus americanus. He identified specimens from Sergipe, and Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, in 1758. They are from the Family Rheidae, and the Order Struthioniformes, commonly known as Ratites. They are joined in this order by Emus, Ostriches, Cassowaries, and Kiwis, along with the extinct forms Moas, and Elephant birds.

Rhea, as the Greek Goddess, is the Titaness daughter of the earth goddess Gaia and the sky god Uranus and Sister and Wife to Cronos in Greek mythology. In early traditions, she is known as "the mother of gods" and therefore is strongly associated with Gaia and Cybele, who have similar functions. The classical Greeks saw her as the mother of the Olympian goddesses and gods, but not as an Olympian goddess in her own right. The Romans identified her with Magna Mater (their form of Cybele), and the Goddess Ops.

The design of the stamp, besides other components of a Countryside Landscape, like Woods, Trees, Bushes, and a Farm House, it also add the Flag of the City of Tranqueras, so Flags Topic is included in the release too.

The design of the Flag resembles the first "Tranquera", Farm Gate in english, that gave name to this city, and it was selected, with over 60% of the votes, in August of 2011, as the winner of the design creation of Tranqueras flag. This design is the work of Miriam Darin, a plastic artist from Tranqueras, and it cames the official Flag of Tranqueras since November 30th of 2011 by an act of Law of the Departament Goverment of Rivera.

Finally, in a more symbolic way: besides that all Centenaries, specially in a Country relatively young as it is Uruguay, reinforces the History, and in this case the Uruguayan History, Topic, I think that the selection of the Greater Rhea as the main element of the stamp design, put the stamp focus on Fauna or Animals, and also in Ecology, and in particular the Care of Extintion Threatened Animals, as the Greater Rhea is in the Near Threatened category, in The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, also known as the IUCN Red List or Red Data List, the World's most comprehensive inventory of the global conservation status of biological species. Then, also the almost wild environment shown in the stamp reinforces the focus of the release in Ecology Topic.

Block:

The block: Only reinforces the Flags Topic, and could be also a very peculiar Doors or Gates, and an even peculiar and precise Farm Gates, as the Flag of the City of Tranqueras is the icon used to show the ink colours used in the printing of the stamps.

FDC:

The desing of the First Day Cancelation: Is the Logotype selected to promote the Centenary of the City of Tranqueras.

By the design of this Logotype, it adds to the release the Sun, with it Stars and Astronomy Topics, also introduce Mountains and not just Plateaus as the stamp does, and reinforces the Farm Gates and Trees topics, with the particulary that that for the last one, it is clearly shown one particular type of Tree, that is the Pine-Tree, that are Conifer Trees, in the Genus Pinus, and in the Family Pinaceae, that is the only Genus in the Subfamily Pinoideae.

If you consider that there are another topics in this stamp, that were not spot in this review, you are encouraged to telling me about them, so please do not hesitate to post a comment. I would appreciate your help very much.

Topics:

Issue:

As Main Topic: could be considereded Philately itself, or History of Philately, perhaps also Classical Stamps, and inside that topics, in particular Uruguayan History of Philately, and Uruguayan Classical Stamps.

Then, surrounding the main topic, could be found the followings: Undoubtely the Coat of Arms Uruguay, as is the Main Topic of the Classical Stamps whose anniversary is commemorated, and with this the wider Coat of Arms topic too.

The Coat of Arms of Uruguay is popular in the world of Philately because it has in his escutcheon items that fit in Collections with a high number of followers, surely being the Lighthouses the most looked for one, as it has the Lighthouse of the "Cerro de Montevideo" in it. The others are Horses, Cows, Ox or a wider Animals or Farm Animals, and even Scales and a wider Instruments of Measure are Topics that the escutcheon of the Coat of Arms of Uruguay has. Besides these direct Topics related to the items in the stutcheon, there are also the Topics that these items symbolize, that are: Power or Strength, by the Fortress, then, Liberty by the Horse, Abundance by the Ox, and finally Equality and Justice by the Scale.

However, not only in his escutcheon one could find topics, outside it there are some more like: The Sun, or Stars, both inside a wider Space or Astronomy, and in particular this Sun, The "Sun of May", a national emblem of Argentina and Uruguay, that also appears in some other flags, has his root in the French Revolution, the Freemasonry, and even in the Christianism. Then, outside the estutcheon too, there are two branch with leaves, one of Laurus nobilis, an aromatic evergreen Tree or large Shrub with green, glossy leaves, native to the Mediterranean region, one of the plants used for bay leaf seasoning in cooking, known as Bay Laurel, Sweet Bay, Bay tree (esp. United Kingdom), True Laurel, Grecian Laurel, Laurel Tree or simply Laurel, and the other one of Olive or Olea europaea, a species of small Tree in the family Oleaceae, found in much of Africa, the Mediterranean Basin from Portugal to Israel, the Arabian Peninsula, and southern Asia as far east as China, plus the Canary Islands, Mauritius and Réunion, species cultivated in many places and considered naturalized in France, Corsica, Crimea, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Java, Norfolk Island, California and Bermuda, so it fit also in Flora or Vegetables Topic.

Then, in particular, the Coat of Arm of Uruguay included in The "Escuditos" Stamps, was the first version of it that also includes many Flags of Uruguay, a Caduceus, the staff carried by Hermes in Greek Mythology, the same staff was also borne by heralds in general, for example by Iris, the messenger of Hera, a short staff entwined by two Serpents, sometimes surmounted by Wings, also has Swords, Canyons, and a Trumpet, so Weapons, Musical Instruments, and Military were topics included in it design too.

As an anecdote, the stamps being commemorated with this Special Cancelations, The "Escuditos", in english, Little Coat of Arms, are known as the First stamps worldwide in the Lighthouse Topic, making the Lighthouse of the "Cerro de Montevideo" the First Lighthouse to be shown in a Stamp, and surely The one that has been included more times in stamps, as there are hundred of stamps issued by Uruguayan Post Office that includes the Coat of Arms of Uruguay in his design, and also there are many more stamps that includes the "Cerro de Montevideo" in it, as it is a Traditional View of Uruguay.

In the same way, it would be interesting to know if these stamps, The "Escuditos", are also the first stamps in the other topics mentioned, as being issued on April 13th, of 1864, they have a high probability to be the first in most of these topics.

Finally, another topic that could be spotted is the 150th Anniversary.

Now, regarding the desing of the Special Cancelation: As the Cancelation consists only in a reproduction of the "06 centésimos" value of The "Escuditos" Series, and some Legends about the Anniversary, it neither add new Topics nor reinforces any of the Topics previously mentioned.

Finally, in a more symbolic way: The decision of release this Special Cancelation, not only guide us to the History of Uruguayan Philately, that also made us to review the  History of Uruguay. Then, the Coat of Arms always evokes Nacionalism, could be Miltiaria too, and of course Heraldry.

Stamps selection:

The stamps selected were: a stamp released in 2006 about the 150th Anniversary of the First Uruguayan Stamp, and then a series of two stamps issued in 2002 commemorating the Bicentenary of the Lighthouse in the "Cerro de Montevideo".

The reason for selecting these stamps was: inspired by two completely different things.

For the first, the selection of the Stamp is aproached by the Philately Topic, and through this vision, the existence of a Stamp that commemorate also the 150th Years of another Classical Stamp was very convenient to make a consistent stamp choice for this cancelation.

The second one selection is guided from the optic of the most popular topic in the Special Cancelation Release that is the Lighthouses Topic. So, following this guide, the beautiful two stamp series of 2002 about the Bicentenary of the same Lighthouse that is included in the Coat of Arms of Uruguay shown in the Cancelation, was a nicely connected serie to decorate the cover for this Special Cancelation.

The selection of this stamps, add the following topics: The first clearly reinforces Philately, and Classical Stamps, as it shows the first Series of Stamps of Uruguay known as the "Diligencias" Stamps, also helps to strength Sun and "Sun of May" Topic, because the main design of these Classical stamps is the "Sun of May", then, as the "Diligencia" means Stagecoach, not only includes this Topic, with the wider Transports also, that it reinforce the Horse Topic too. Finally, another Minor topic that is reinforced is 150th Anniversary too.

Then, the second series reinforces intentionally the Lighthouse Topic, and in particular the Lighthouse of the "Cerro de Montevideo" Topic. Then it adds the Bicentenary topic, also Soldiers and Weapon Topics are added because they appear in the first Stamp of the Series, both reinforcing Militaria Topic. Finally the second stamp of the serie reinforces the Uruguayan Coat of Arms Topic, as it appears over the door of the Lighthouse, strengthening all the Topics that this Coat of Arms has, as already mentioned in previous paragraphs.

If you consider that there are another topics in this stamp, that were not spot in this review, you are encouraged to telling me about them, so please do not hesitate to post a comment. I would appreciate your help very much.
