The stamp was issued to commemorate the “World Blood Donor Day”, a celebration designed by the World Health Organization (WHO), a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is concerned with international public health.

The celebration occurs on each June 14 since 2005, because this day is the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, an Austrian biologist and physician, that was the creator of the ABO blood group system, for which he won the Nobel Prize in 1930.

The theme of 2012 world blood donor day campaign was "every blood donor is a hero", and the headquarters for the main events this year was Seoul, South Korea.

Although the main topic of the stamp is the blood, or more specifically the blood donation, this stamp can be placed in the medicine related collections, also in human body ones, and even in Fluids ( Previous ) topic collections.

Another possible interpretation of the stamp motive is solidarity and humanness.

And also, the stamp mentioned ASSE, that is the organizations that administrate the health services of the Uruguayan government.

The FDC includes also the topic of the heart, that could be seen, both, as part of human body, or as symbol of love.
